Exhibition “Stages, Banks, Aircraft Hangars. Frankfurt Projects by Otto Apel/ABB”
The exhibition “Stages, Banks, Aircraft Hangars. Frankfurt Projects by Otto Apel/ABB” at the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt shows a selection of this work in more than 500 historical black-and-white photographs from the 1950s to the 1970s by the photographer Ulfert Beckert, supplemented by new photographs by Eike Laeuen. The buildings designed by the architectural firm Otto Apel, later ABB Architekten, in the second half of the 20th century still shape Frankfurt’s cityscape today. In 2015, the German Architecture Museum (DAM) in Frankfurt took over part of the ABB office archive.
In addition to the Deutsche Bundesbank, the around 40 buildings the architectural firm realised in Frankfurt include the high-rises of Dresdner Bank and Deutsche Bank, the Municipal Theatres and the Hotel Intercontinental.
