This Tübingen-based association is particularly dedicated to the psychosocial aftercare of children with cancer and their relatives. In addition to caring for the patients themselves, it also supports families in coming to terms with their difficult experiences. Above all, sharing experiences of the traumatic events of this illness is an important help.
The Child Protection Association in our home town of Reutlingen celebrated its 60th anniversary back in 2014. Guided by the principles “understanding instead of condemning” and “helping instead of indifference”, the association looks after disadvantaged children and their families and works to improve their living conditions.
Worldwide, 330 million children, many of them orphans, are growing up in poverty. SOS Children's Villages are active on every continent in more than 130 countries in total. In their facilities, they create prospects for children from socially disadvantaged families by building and running kindergartens, schools and training centres. Developing and strengthening the affected regions is intended to enable help for self-help and bring about a long-term improvement in living conditions.
Since 1995, the association has supported the intensive care unit of the Clinic for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the Klinikum am Steinenberg in Reutlingen. More than 130 members now support the parents and families of premature babies. A key focus of the work is improving outpatient aftercare for premature and seriously ill children. This is the basis of the “Our sunshine” aftercare model, which is tailored specifically to the needs of the children and their relatives after discharge from hospital.
In the villages of West Africa, people with mental illness are locked away – out of fear of demons, out of helplessness, out of financial hardship. State psychiatric care is dismal. The Friends of St. Camille association was founded in 2003 to help these people with mental illness. For the exhibition of their work, “Chained people – on the treatment of the mentally ill in West Africa” at the Museum of Psychiatry in Göppingen, we provided our universally usable Mila-wall wall modules.
For more than 20 years, we have worked with the BruderhausDiakonie workshops. The workshops meet our high quality standards and have therefore become an important and reliable partner for us. We are pleased that this collaboration allows us to support people with disabilities and disadvantaged people in the region.
